Making Campaign Financing for politicians transparent

SHYNE AND DALLA

Amidst the recent government scandal involving various Ministers and Lev Dermen, there are talks of creating new legislation to make campaign financing and support for politicians, more transparent.

Amidst the recent government scandal involving various Ministers and Lev Dermen, there are talks of creating new legislation to make campaign financing and support for politicians, more transparent.  According to PUP Area representative for Caribbean Shores, Kareem Musa, he is a supporter of campaign financing laws to be implemented in Belize. Musa noted that many at times these politicians are being supported by people who are conducting criminal acts.

Kareem Musa, PUP Area Representative for Caribbean Shores: “I am in full support of campaign financing laws in our country for this very reason. Lev Derman is not the first of his kind in Belize, there are many including one that has been convicted of taking off somebody’s head in this country, who has financed politicians in this country. And so what else do we need ? What else are we waiting for? The most evil thing has happened in our country because of people who donate to these ministers. The most heinous crime you could imagine has happened and I thought it would have stopped there but now more and more is coming out so it is high time that we get campaign financing laws in this country.”

Campaign financing laws will provide an accurate depiction of how a politician goes about acquiring his finances where the money went and what was it used for.
