Malaria day 2020 being observed

Belize is observing today as Malaria Day in the Americas.  Ministry of Health reported that the country has achieved one hundred percent reduction in cases of malaria taking the figures from 1,486 in the year 2000 to zero cases in 2019.  Belize is now on its way to be declared malaria free.  According to the Director of Health Services they continue to maintain surveillance.

Belize’s most vulnerable areas remain the southern and northern districts as currently, malaria cases are concentrated in small municipalities in our neighboring countries of Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.  Malaria Day is being observed under the theme, “Zero Malaria starts with me.”
