An elderly man was beaten and killed inside his home over the weekend. Police’s quick response has led to the arrest of two men suspected to be the killers in this incident. Unconfirmed reports suggest that one of the men arrested is Castillo’s son. While Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvett, confirmed that there is some relation, he was not specific.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “On Saturday last sometime after 1:30am Corozal police responded to an information of someone shouting inside a home on 5th Street North Corozal Town, where upon the police’s arrival they found one Paul Castillo, 66 years of the said address apparently motionless with chop wounds to the body. What the police know so far is that Castillo at the time was accompanied by two persons whom just before the police’s arrival had left the area and police during their investigations detained two persons who were later charged for the crime of murder that being Earl Boden 47 years of a Belize City address and Norman Castillo 38 years also of a Belize City address both for the crime of murder. At this point we do not know, we are still trying to determine an exact motive but we know also that the building was ransacked as well.”
Castillo was found on his bed with chop wounds to both feet, both hands, the face, head, chest and neck. The two Belize City men charged for this homicide are 47-year-old Earl Bowden of Buttonwood Bay and 38-year-old Norman Justo Castillo of Belama Phase Two. They were jointly charged with one count of murder. According to ACP Myvett, alcohol may have been a factor, but police cannot confirm that as yet.
