Darren Gillett, a labourer, was charged with attempted murder and three other offences when he appeared today before the Chief Magistrate, Anne Marie Smith. The other offences included dangerous harm, use of deadly means of harm and robbery. According to the allegation, on June 29 at Rhaburn Ridge, Gillett beat police officer Jason Hall with a gas tank and stole his silver 4 door Mazda car, valued at thirteen thousand five hundred dollars. Gillet also allegedly stole Hall’s cellular phone, valued at 450 dollars, his wallet containing 400 dollars and some personal documents. The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that Gillet had escaped from police custody, that Hall is still in a critical at the hospital and that the prosecution has a strong case. Chief Magistrate Smith upheld the objection and she remanded Gillet into custody until August 4.
