Man charged for shooting at police officers

Twenty-two year old Phillip Bowen, a resident of Freedom Street, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm against two police officers when he appeared today before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser. Bowen pled not guilty to the charges. He was remanded into custody until August 14. Two police constables, Anton Simpson and Agrazavad Sankey, reported that about 1:30 a.m. on June 28 they were on motorcycle patrol on Central American Boulevard when they saw a taxi car travelling at high speed. The officers said they attempted to intercept the car and it turned on to Antelope Street. The officers said they pursued the car and it ran into a drain on Antelope Street Extension. According to the police officers, one of the two occupants of the car, the person who was on the passenger side, fired a single at them but it missed. Both men then exited the car and made good their escape. The officers reported that when they searched the car they found a single nine millimeter bullet and an LG cell phone that revealed that it belonged to Bowen. As a result, Bowen was arrested and charged.
