Man charged with attempted murder in Belize granted bail with conditions.

Forty-one-year-old Charles Patrick Herbert, who has been on remanded for the last four months on a charge of attempted murder, has been granted bail. Herbert’s bail application was heard today in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court by Chief Magistrate Jayani Wegodapola. Herbert’s Attorney, Norman Rodriguez presented his case and assured the court that he is not a flight risk. The Chief Magistrate granted him bail in the sum of five thousand dollars plus two sureties of two thousand five hundred dollars each. Herbert’s bail came as many as ten conditions including a requirement to surrender all travel documents and a prohibition from contacting the complainant or his relatives. Herbert is accused of stabbing his brother Ruben Herbert, back in August of 2022. He was not formally charged until March 2023, and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until his bail hearing. Herbert is due back in court on August 31.
