Man Charged with Murder in Connection to Caye Caulker Resident’s Death

Today, police officially arrested and charged a man in connection with the murder of thirty-two-year-old Caye Caulker Resident, Leslie Verde. Over the weekend, Verde was found dead in her home under questionable circumstances. According to police, Verde was found motionless by her children around 11 o’clock on Saturday morning. Initial investigations reveal that she had bruises around her neck; however, there was no sign of forced entry at her home. Late this evening police confirmed that forty-four-year-old Juan Carlos Novelo, was charged for the crime of murder. The news of her passing shocked the community and Caye Caulker Village Chair Seleni Villanueva-Pot spoke to us today about the kind of person Verde will be remembered as.

Pott says that residents are uneasy following the incident and looking to the Belize Police Department to do their due diligence in investigating the incident. Pott said that authorities need to send a strong message to discourage any more occurrences of violence on the island.
