A Carnival cruiser from Yonkers, New York was convicted for assaulting a police officer whilst on vacation with his family in Belize. Late yesterday evening, 39-year-old, Brian Keith Gibbs pleaded guilty to assault. The assault stems from a misunderstanding at Terminal 1 located at the Tourism Police Unit, Fort Street in Belize City. Gibbs begged the court for leniency. Senior Magistrate, Pitts-Anderson imposed a non-custodial sentence upon him taking into consideration, the fact that he is a first-time offender who showed remorse for his actions. Gibbs was fined $500 plus a $5.00 cost of court which he was ordered to pay forthwith since he is not a Belizean in default, three months’ imprisonment. Arrangement was made for Gibbs to be taken to the nearest ATM where he withdrew cash and paid his fine. Allegations are that at 1:30 this afternoon, whilst at Terminal1, he assaulted Special Constable, Alford Castillo, attached to the Belize Police Tourism Unit during the execution of his duties.
