Man Fined for Attacking Mother of His Children in Belize City

A man was fined in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court after admitting to attacking the mother of his children with a stick. Belize City resident, Leon Hamilton appeared in the Magistrate’s Court today before Chief Magistrate Jayani Wegodapola. Hamilton was charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of trespassing to which he pleaded guilty. In court he told the Chief Magistrate that he knew what he did was wrong and pleaded that the court show him leniency. He was fined five hundred dollars plus five dollars cost of court for the aggravated assault, as well as a hundred and fifty dollars plus the cost of court charge for the trespassing. He has until August 31 to pay both fines or he will spend up to six months in prison. The incident occurred on Monday, June 26.
