Man Fined for Damaging Property During Domestic Dispute

A Belize City man was fined for damaging a woman’s house during a domestic dispute. 36-year-old, Roy Eugene Bennet appeared unrepresented before a Magistrate in court where he was read a single charge of damage to property. Bennet pleaded guilty and said, “I won’t return there since the incident occurred”. According to Bennet, the incident occurred two weeks ago and not on the day the woman claimed that it happened. He also mentioned that he was not drunk when it happened but admitted that he damaged the window when he punched it with his hand. For his guilty plea, Bennet was imposed a non-custodial sentence of a fine of $200 plus a $5.00 court fine of which he was given until March 28 to pay in default to 2 weeks imprisonment. Allegations against Bennet are that he went to the home of a 43-year-old woman on Racecourse Street under the influence of alcohol around 6:00 am this morning and broke her metal window.
