Man Fined for Shoplifting from Simon Quan

A Belize City resident was fined 30 times the total cost of items which he admitted to stealing from Simon Quan. 35-year-old Rashaan Kadeem Castillo appeared unrepresented before a magistrate in court today where he was charged with theft. Castillo pleaded guilty to the theft and was imposed a non-custodial sentence of a fine of $300 plus a $5.00 cost of court fine which he has until April 30 to pay in default to 3 months imprisonment. According to Antonio Quan, a manager at Simon Quan, yesterday at around 6:40p.m he was alerted by a staff member that Castillo was seen shoplifting. At the exit a search was conducted which led to the discovery of a pack of chocolate and a pair of reading glasses totaling $9.90 tucked under his shirt in front of his front pants waist.
