A Belize City man was fined today after pleading guilty to possessing a minuscule amount of crack cocaine, reportedly so small, it couldn’t be weighed. Forty-one-year-old Glen Andrews appeared unrepresented in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. He faced a single charge of possession of controlled drugs stemming from an incident yesterday on Cran Street. Andrews wasted no time in pleading guilty before Magistrate Ludlow Black, but offered an explanation. He told the court the police didn’t find the drugs on him, but rather in a drain where he admitted throwing it when he saw the officers approaching. He confirmed the substance was his. Given the guilty plea, Magistrate Black imposed a non-custodial sentence: a fine of two hundred dollars, plus a five-dollar cost of court. Andrews has until May 30 to pay the fine. If he fails to pay by the deadline, he faces two months’ imprisonment.
