Karma was swift over the weekend as a man who had just committed a crime became victim of a road traffic accident some hours later. We go first to our Cayo Correspondent Fem Cruz who was on the scene of the accident in Ontario Village.
Fem Cruz, Cayo Correspondent: A road traffic incident on the George Price Highway in the Village of Ontario left the driver of a white Toyota pickup truck in a serious condition. Love News understands that 46 year old Hector Perez a towhead driver of San Martin Belmopan was heading towards Cayo and upon reaching a curve between mile 54 and 55 a Toyota truck that was coming in the opposite direction collided into his truck. Perez explained more.
Hector Perez, Semi Truck Driver: “I was travelling East to West in a semi truck when right on the curve near Ontario by the Christian Academy a white pick up truck was coming at a high speed and he kind of went over to my lane and I hit the truck and trailer and I tried to evade the accident by swerving with the truck a little bit but it was impossible for me to prevent the accident. The driver’s condition was bad, his passenger was injured too for some reason he ran away into the bushes and the police never found him so only the driver they took to the hospital.”
Fem Cruz, Cayo Correspondent: The driver of the pick up truck was learned to be Noel Polanco of Pomona Village.
The police made no mention of this case in their press brief today but our newsroom did get a copy of security footage that shows the accident victim inside a fruit shop. The man was buying fruits and when the vendor turned away, the video shows clearly when the man snatched a cell phone from the counter. Hours later, our newsroom got footage of the very same man sitting on the highway against a white pickup truck and bleeding from the head. As we noted, police did not indicate if the man was being charged.
