Man Gunned Down in Orange Walk Town: No Known Enemies or Criminal Ties

Over the weekend, a man was gunned down while heading home in Orange Walk Town. On Saturday night, 25-year-old Roberto Aragon was targeted as he walked through Staine Alley. Police says Aragon was shot several times to the body and died on the spot. Aragon, who resided in Baeza Alley, was then identified by his mother, 74-year-old Sylvia Villa, and subsequently taken to the morgue at the Northern Regional Hospital. Aragon’s brother, Thomas Aragon, explained to Love News that his brother did not have any enemies and was not known to be affiliated with any criminal elements.

“Well at this point there’s a lot of rumors out there. I won’t say my little brother was an innocent man because none of us are innocent, all of us have a little sin that we do now and then. My little brother was out there you know serving, cleaning yards, chopping bushes, doing errands for people and that particular moment he was heading home because he was heading out from the club. A lot of his friends were out there with him, a lot of people were socializing with him that night. That particular morning about four o’clock a lot of his friends saw him heading home so while heading home he was shot. I mean we don’t know what actually happened. At this point we’re waiting for police to give us more update of their investigation.”

Reporter: Right and the people who he was with prior to that happening do they have anything to share about maybe any possible altercations that might have happened earlier in the night ?

“Well so far no. All of them have come forward to give their condolences none of them have told us that he had any beef with someone out there or he was being threatened by someone out there. His close friends would have known because you know friends usually talk more with friends than with family so I believe that if the friend doesn’t know then I have no clue what happened to him and I can’t say that it was mistake identity because it was early in the morning and I think the person who killed him knew exactly what he was doing and he was shot back on. So I don’t know what happened.”

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hilberto Romero, says that police are yet to ascertain a motive behind Aragon’s murder but are looking into various angles.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “Information is that he was in the alley when shots were heard. The police responded and they found him motionless there. An investigation into this matter continues.”

Reporter: The family believes that there is surveillance footage from the home of a police officer that lives in that area, are you able to say if indeed there is surveillance footage ?

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “Investigators are combing the area and if they find video footage then that will be obtained. They’re on the ground at this time working on the case.”

Reporter: Any motive at this time ?

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “Not at this time. We do not know what transpired, what led to the shooting.”
