Man Loses Hand in Violent Chopping Incident in Bella Vista Village

On Saturday night, a Guatemalan farm worker lost one of his hands during a chopping incident in Bella Vista Village, Toledo District. According to police, around 8 o’clock, 43-уеаr-оld Edgar Lorenzana was with a female companion when he was approached by another man, identified as Giovanni Beltran. A struggle ensued between the men which led to Beltran brandishing a machete. Beltran then chopped Lorenzana and completely severed his right wrist. Lorenzana was rushed to the Independence Poly Clinic but later transferred to the Southern Regional Hospital. Police canvassed the crime scene and found Lorenzana’s detached hand.  Up to news time, investigators were unable to record a statement from the victim or main witness. Police investigations continue.
