A man was remanded to the Belize Central Prison after he was unable to meet bail for handling stolen goods- specifically his sister’s gold ring. Allegations are that on Thursday, 28-year-old, James Egbert assisted in keeping a gold ring with a diamond emblem valued at $50, property of his sister, Camrey Williams. Williams initially pleaded guilty in court yesterday with the explanation that, quote “When I got paid from Booths, I went to the corner of Euphrates and Orange Street and bought the ring.” Unquote. According to Williams, there is a camera at the shop which captured him buying the ring. With that, an equivocal plea was entered on his behalf. Williams was offered bail in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same amount which he was not able to meet by yesterday and as a result, was remanded to the Belize Central Prison. William’s next court date is set for April 23.
