Man Sentenced to Prison for Shoplifting Air Fresheners

A fifty-five-year-old man caught shoplifting air fresheners has been sentenced to three months in prison. Reymundo Pech appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, charged with a single count of theft. Pech immediately pleaded guilty to the charge; however, his guilty plea could not save him from prison time. That’s because he now has a total of five convictions for theft. Still, the Magistrate acknowledged that he saved the court time by not going to trial which influenced the three-month sentence, instead of the mandatory one year. Pech was charged with stealing ten air fresheners from Ice Cold Store in Burrell Boom Village.
