While, Henry unfortunately lost his life to gun violence, another man who was shot to his face this weekend, is clinging to life. According to police, twenty-nine-year-old, Elsworth Hendy was riding his bicycle near the Mirab Furniture Store on the George Price Highway when he was approached by two men, on a motorcycle, who opened fire. Assistant Superintendent of Police, Fitzroy Yearwood says that investigators are in the process of ascertaining a motive behind the incident.
ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, Public Relation Belize Police Department: “We had a shooting around 6:50 pm on Casuarina Street. Police responded to a shooting on upper Vernon Street where in the yard they met with one Elsworth Hendy, an upholstery worker of a Belize City address who was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital with a single gunshot wound to the body. Our initial investigation so far has unraveled that around 6:40 pm he was riding on separate bicycle with a female friend from a direction not too far from where the shooting occurred and two persons on a motorcycle overtook them on the street, stopped a few feet from them while the passenger fired a single gunshot causing his injury. We have officers canvassing that area trying to find out what could have been the motive behind that shooting and hopefully we could get some answers to try to ascertain who are the suspects in that shooting.”
Henry remains admitted in a critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
