Sr.Supt.Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “On Friday the twenty fifth day of October 2019 around 7pm police received a report of a shooting incident at Gales Point Manatee. Police proceeded to the area where upon arrival they found the lifeless body of Inmar Welch, 28 years Belizean fisherman of Gale’s Point Manatee with apparent gunshot injuries. Thereafter the body was removed and taken to the morgue where it was pronounced dead on arrival. We have several persons detained for this investigation and no one has been charged at this time. We do not have a motive at this time, we are conducting interviews and following up on the investigation.”
Reporter: A bunch of people would say that that community is populated with gang related persons, is police looking into that angle that maybe this shooting may be gang related ?
Sr.Supt.Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “Yes we are looking at that yes.”
Welch is no stranger to the law. Back in 2012, he was arrested in connection with an armed robbery at Paul’s Store on Cemetery Road. He was charged with firearm offenses as well as with handling stolen goods. Welch had also survived another shooting in 2017. He was reportedly in front of a house on Jones Street when a gunman came out of a vehicle and opened fire at him.
