On Friday, we told you about 27-year-old, Matthew Smith, who was the victim of a stabbing incident. He was reportedly stabbed over an argument with another man concerning a bicycle. Assistant Superintendent of Police, Alejandro Cowo, told us today that Smith is not cooperating with police.
A.S.P. Alejandro Cowo – Head of Crimes Investigation Branch Belize City: “On Thursday the 4th of July just after 7 pm police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they observed Mathew Smith suffering from an apparent stab wound to the body. What police gathered so far is that Mr. Smith was at East Collett Canal when he had an argument with a male person from that area over a bicycle. As a result, a fight ensued between both of them which resulted in him being stabbed to the left side of his armpit. The person was detained, police have made several attempts to communicate and request the assistance of Mr. Mathew Smith who so far has not provided much information to the police in regards to the incident. The suspect was detained, he was interviewed, however because of police not having a statement the matter could not proceed. However we are still dialoguing with Mr. Smith to see if he will still make a statement or not.”
According to ASP Cowo, just because the victim is not cooperating, does not mean the case will be ignored by police. //////////
