A Belize City man almost lost his life yesterday around noon over a bag of tools. 33-year-old, James Nunez reported to police that he was sitting outside his home after work around noon when 4 persons came out of a vehicle and began to threaten him over some tools that were left in Nunez’s home three months ago. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams says the report was strange since the alleged attacker came back for tools that he left when he was stealing car parts from Nunez.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “According to what the report is is that the victim is saying that he was in front of his home sitting on a bucket I think and he was approached by two persons or three persons in a black Rodeo. One August, Randy August I believe is the name alighted the vehicle and approached him and inquired about some tool that he may have left at the victim’s garage and while he was trying to steal – while he was trying to steal some parts from some vehicle and so he came back for the tools and him and the victim had an exchange during which the victim took out a knife to defend himself and Randy told the girl that was with him to get the gun out of the vehicle. The gun was retrieved and the victim eventually ran and made a call to the police. Police responded and the Rodeo was intercepted but Randy August and another person had escaped. I am not sure if he has been caught by the police but certainly if and when he is caught it’s a matter for the police to look at for aggravated assault.”
