Man Takes Guilty Plea in Drug Case, Allowing Girlfriend and Officer to Walk Free

A man pleaded guilty to a charge of drug trafficking yesterday, which allowed his girlfriend and her cousin who is a police officer to walk free. Thirty-three-year-old Kharif Sutherland appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court jointly charged with 24-year-old Police Constable Shedrack Anthony Jorgensen, and 25-year-old, Moesha Jorgensen, with a single count of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply to another. For his guilty plea, Sutherland was fined $2,500, which he must pay by December 31 or he faces a year in prison. Police busted the trio at Sutherland’s home on Banak Street yesterday morning after they found one thousand eighty-two grams of marijuana inside the residence during a search. The drugs were found inside a barrel in the house and since the Jorgensens were present at the time of the search, they were also charged.
