Man’s hand is severed during chopping incident

A man’s left hand was severed, and the accused attacker has been sent to the Belize Central Prison on remand.  The violent bloodshed took place during curfew hours in the wee hours of Saturday morning just before one o’clock.  According to 32-year-old Shane Kenrick Leal he was inside his home in Esperanza Village, Cayo District when he heard someone at his gate calling for him.  Reports are that he pulled his machete to go see who it was and that was when he saw his neighbors Diana Manzanero Neal and Isaias Estrada outside.  The two were reportedly accusing Leal of interfering with Manzanero’s gate and that was when things got violent.  Leal says he acted in self defence but according to Estrada’s spouse, Vicky Bonnell, that is not how the incident unfolded.

Estrada is conscious and is in a stable condition.  In addition to losing his left hand, Estrada also received a chop wound to the head.  Love News understands that 32-year-old Shane Kenrick Leal was arraigned in court this morning before Magistrate Ladonna John on a charge of maim.  He was remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
