March 12 Declared Public and Bank Holiday for General Elections

March 12 has been declared a public and bank holiday as the date set for the general elections.  The notice came out late last night and created some doubt considering that the parliament had been dissolved.  Our newsroom was able to confirm that the notice was a legitimate document issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.  The holiday declaration is nothing new as the country has seen previous general elections accommodated with a day-off from work and school.  The grounds for this are usually to utilize schools for polling stations; to utilize public officers to work the elections, and to have voters travel to their respective divisions to vote.
