Almost one week ago, we told you of the condominium resort with 71 waterfront residences planned for Ambergris Caye via Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Holdings. According to the Caribbean Journal, the resort will be constructed on the northern end of the island, inside the Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve. While the article is an international publication, Love News sought to get confirmation from local officials. Minister of Trade and Investment, Tracy Taegar-Panton, explained where the plans currently stand.
Tracy Taegar-Panton – Minister of Trade & Investment: “ The Margaritaville line is monies that has been allocated by the Jimmy Buffet Foundation. They have not applied for a fiscal incentive. They are still very much in the planning stage. We do understand that they will be meeting with us shortly and so the final details we don’t have but we have been advised of the investment and so we are looking forward to opening a new market and client as a result of their brand.
Johnelle Mckenzie: “Is this being built in a reserve area?”
Tracy Taegar-Panton – Minister of Trade & Investment: “I can’t say.”
The Caribbean Journal noted that the property will be comprised of a mix of fully-furnished one, two and three-bedroom residences, each with a large veranda and will also include a 400-foot pier. Margaritaville Resorts Belize is the latest of developments as Belize is also anticipating the Four Seasons project on Caye Chapel to a pair of Marriott-branded hotels on the way.
