Marie Sharp Named to Forbes 50 Over 50 Global List

Belize received international recognition with business icon Marie Sharp being named to the Forbes 50 Over 50: Global 2026 list, a prestigious ranking that honors influential women over the age of 50 who continue to make a significant global impact. At 85 years old, Sharp was recognized for the worldwide success of Marie Sharp’s Fine Foods, a brand that has brought Belizean flavors to kitchens around the world. The Forbes list celebrates women who have broken barriers, scaled businesses, and redefined leadership later in life, reinforcing that age is no barrier to achievement. Sharp’s inclusion placed Belize alongside global leaders from diverse industries, highlighting decades of entrepreneurship rooted in Belizean culture. Love News spoke with Marie Sharp who spoke on the award and the gratitude she feels.

Her contributions to the culinary industry were recognized in 2016 with her induction into the Hot Sauce Hall of Fame, and her latest Forbes honor further cements her legacy as one of Belize’s most successful entrepreneurs.  Sharp began her entrepreneurial journey in 1981 after leaving her career as an elementary school teacher. She started by growing habanero peppers in her garden and experimenting with recipes while working full-time at the Citrus Company. Encouraged by friends, she began selling her sauces, which quickly gained popularity locally and abroad, leading to exports to the United States. Following a trademark dispute, Sharp rebranded and launched Marie Sharp’s Fine Foods in 1992, expanding the product line to include sauces, jams, and seasonings.
