Marissa Longsworth, new Honorary Consul of Canada

Former President of the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Marissa Longsworth is the new Honorary Consul of Canada resident in Belize. Before her new appointment, she headed the chamber up until May of this year. Longsworth holds a Master in Laws and Policy from the University of Strathclyde and a Bachelor in Law from the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill. She has also been an active member of the International Trademark Association and the Belize Bar Association. A statement from the Canadian government says that it and Belize enjoy a positive bilateral relationship, spanning more than 40 years. This relationship is reinforced by shared ties such as being part of the Commonwealth and the Organization of American States, common historical traditions, similar systems of governments, and significant cultural and people-to-people links. Canada and Belize are also working together through active engagement at the Caribbean Community and Common Market to advance common goals of prosperity, resilience to climate change, gender equality and economic development. Longsworth was appointed on September 29.
