Last Wednesday, May 17, Love News was at the Belize City Municipal Airstrip where the body of 18-year-old, Marvin Cristobal Chac Pap was being flown in after being found in the Ceibo Chico area. It is an incident that led to several erroneous reports in the Guatemalan media, casting aspersions at the Belizean soldiers. Brigadier General David Jones laid all those reports to rest last week when he explained to us that the body of the man was retrieved from the river and that the reports were that he and others were gold panning in Belize’s territory when two of them, including Pop fell off a cliff. Pop died while the other escaped. Commander Jones added that there was absolutely no confrontation with the BDF in this incident. The body was brought in on Wednesday just after five o’clock and was taken to a facility where an autopsy was conducted and revealed that Pop died of severe cerebral subarachnoid haemorrhage with severe cerebral edema due to blunt force traumatic injuries to the head as a consequence of fall from height. The body was returned to his family on Thursday following the post mortem examination.
