Maya Leaders Alliance Steps Up to Aid Fire-Affected Villagers

The Maya Leaders Alliance (MLA) has pledged to render aid to its fellow villagers in the affected communities.  According to Cristina Coc, Spokesperson for the alliance and for the Toledo Alcalde Association, an assessment is currently underway.

Christina Coc, MLA/TAA Spokesperson: “With regards to the wildfires, clearly you’ve seen the devastation. A lot of our communities have been impacted. We are in the process of completing our assessment of that damage. Our focus is on relief and recovery ensuring that for the next three to four months those who have lost their corn and their milpas will have food, traditional food that other communities will provide through the aid as we are organizing to provide that relief and recovery.”

Reporter:  The Association is funding this? 

Christina Coc, MLA/TAA Spokesperson: “The Association is leading this recovery and relief effort and we’re going to fundamentally our first priority is to provide food security within the next three to four months until we can have another crop of corn.”
