Leaders in the Maya community have strongly condemned the murder of the Oh sisters and are calling on the authorities to act in a timely manner. We hear more in this report from correspondent Paul Mahung.

Two community leaders have denounced the double murder of two Maya females in rural Toledo.
SENATOR MACARIO COY, COMMUNITY LEADER
“First of all, I would like to express my sincerest condolences to the family of the two young women of San Antonio Toledo that were murdered. I pledge my support to the family during this difficult time for the loss of their loved ones. As a leader of this community I had made all appeals to the authorities to conduct an investigation into this terrible murder. They have assured me that they will carry out extensive investigations in efforts to discover the author of this crime. I have also contacted the Minister of State responsible for home affairs in regards to this matter. He had assured that no stone would be left unturned. He had also expressed his condolences to the family and gave his assurance to the family and community that justice into this matter will be brought forward.”
Another community leader, former Senator and Chairlady of Toledo Maya Women’s Council, PulcheriaTeul, also spoke to Love News.

“Toledo Maya Women’s Council expresses its sincere condolences to the family of the two Maya girls murdered on Crique Jute San Jose Road. TMWC ( Toledo Maya Women’s Council ) calls on the local and national authorities and organizations to join TMWC and take action against this act of violence caused to these Maya girls of San Antonio Village Toledo. We cannot fall into silence in times of doubt.”
This double murder incident has not only stirred major concern in the Maya Communities but in the entire Toledo District and other parts of Belize and abroad. Police investigation into this matter continues.
