Mayor Bernard Wagner also fielded questions regarding a situation of fraudulent cheques which were forged by participants of the Leadership Intervention Union’s cleanup campaign. According to the minutes of the council meeting on March 30, City Administrator Stephanie Lindo-Garbutt told the council that three of these cheques were reported to the Police and that the Ministry of Local Government was informed of the situation. Today, Mayor Wagner was asked about the situation.
Bernard Wagner, Mayor, Belize City: “We have not seen any recurrence of that matter and I think we were able to quickly based on our accounting system to identify those cheques. I believe the leadership of the LIU program dealt with that matter and so we have not seen any recurrence of that issue but the Council didn’t lose any sort of financial loss in that. We were able to identify quick and send it to the bank so the bank was able to put the stop orders in place.”
Councilor Michael Novelo also informed the council that the Conscious Youth Development Program was also to carry out an investigation of its own and indicated that the culprits were no longer in the program because they are in jail.
