Belize City Mayor, Bernard Wagner has broken his silence regarding the shooting incident involving Deputy Mayor Micah Goodin. Wagner, who is currently in Barbados on an official visit, had refused to have Goodin assume the post of acting Mayor before his departure. Goodin refuted any involvement in the shooting, which left a shadow councillor injured and referred to the City Council Act which states that in the absence of the Mayor the Deputy shall assume mayoral responsibilities. According to Wagner, despite Goodin’s claims, the act does not require that he relinquish his responsibilities when on official leave.
According to Wagner, this is not the first time he has had issues with Goodin and had previously stripped Goodin of key responsibilities under his portfolio. Wagner says that this time around while he is unable to suspend Goodin, he is hoping that Central Government would intervene to penalize the good councilor for his recent actions.
