The Belize City Council says it will now give the Christian Workers Union (CWU) the attention they were requesting surrounding the finalizing and renewal of a Collective Bargaining Agreement. Speaking with Love News yesterday Mayor Bernard Wagner told Love News that it is a high priority for his council.
Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City: “That is priority, that is number one priority. We made an agreement prior to election that we would give back a counter proposal by March 31st, we have all intentions to meet that deadline.”
Renee Trujillo, Love FM News: This is for the CBA right ?
Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City: “This is – collective bargaining agreement yes. As you know the previous one expired and my first order of business would be to convene that committee back with three council along with the City Administrator and really begin that putting together of our counterproposals for the union with a view to ensure that we build a great relationship with the union.”
Renee Trujillo, Love FM News: The CBA as is is that going to take more investment from the council financially ?
Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City: “Yes when we look at it from an analytical standpoint it certainly calls for more financial resources and so that will have to be looked at and we have to again that committee will drive that discussion obviously but putting everything in context we have to always consider the financial obligations.”
