A well-known mechanic of Belmopan, Cayo District is dead following a road traffic accident that occurred about five miles outside Melchor de Mencos in Peten, Guatemala over the weekend. Lloyd Andrews was traveling with his wife, Leticia Andrews and his three children, ages five, twelve and fourteen when the incident occurred. His 14-year-old son, Jimmy Andrews has since been released from the hospital with injuries to his face. Love News spoke with him today as he completed his check up at La Loma Luz Hospital in Santa Elena Town, Cayo District.
“I was sitting in the back with my little brother and sister and we accidentally took the wrong road and we crashed into the ground into a pool where animals were bathing. We heard people coming and police, we were waiting then people started to pull us out and the ambulance came and took myself and my family to the hospital. I got a broken jaw and a few cuts on my arm as well as bruises on my leg.”
Juanita Hyde is a family friend who has been helping the family since the news of the accident. According to Hyde, who has been friends with the deceased since childhood, says the wife and two other children had undergone surgery in Peten and are to be transferred to Belize City late this evening.
“The mother was the one that got the most of it. Her head was split in three places and the other two the little girl has a bulged eye and can’t see out of one of her eyes. The little boy got his arm broken and his head was split as well. So far they did an operation yesterday on them and they are saying that they are doing fine so far. So far they have said that the operation will be very expensive. They are supposed to bring them to the border this evening by ambulance, from there our ambulance is going to pick them up at the border. My niece is over there and my little sister is there too, they will meet up at the border. So far they are okay with the surgery they went through last night.”
“What about Mr.Lloyd?”
“He didn’t make it. He died on the spot.”
“Do you know of any injuries that he sustained?”
“His steering wheel punctured his heart and his ribs were broken. He didn’t make it.”
“Where is he right now ?”
“He’s in the hospital in Belmopan, he was the first one we brought unfortunately they couldn’t save him.”
The family was on their way to Honduras to visit relatives for the Easter weekend. They were traveling in their private motor vehicle.
