Mechanism to Assist Undocumented Belizeans in Regularizing Citizenship Status to Be Developed

Also coming out of Cabinet on Tuesday, was the decision to have a mechanism developed that will assist undocumented Belizeans in regularizing their status as citizens. The decision resulted from the successful mobile clinics that the Vital Statistics Unit has been holding around the country.  In last week alone, there was an estimated thirteen hundred Belizeans were able to apply and obtain their vital documents through a land clinic in Santa Cruz Village.  According to Cabinet, these clinics are showing the need of residents, particularly in the remote areas, in accessing their birth and registration papers from the VSU.  Additionally, Cabinet has called on a collaboration between both the VSU and the Ministry of Health that will make it easier for new-borns to be registered in a timely manner.
