Media Blocked from Forward Operating Base Reopening Ceremony

After reporting on the deterioration, and the urgency for the Forward Operating Base to be fully functional, the media was blocked from the official reopening.  The government had a speak-easy ceremony earlier today with only government officials, CEOs and military personnel on the guest list.  The Belize Defence Force issued a release today calling the reopening as a significant milestone, and the government’s approach and commitment in safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity.  Love News understands that there was a situational update presented to the invited guests, followed by the ribbon cutting.  Present for the grand reopening were Minister Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Minister Florencio Marin Jr., Minister of National Defence and Border Security; Brigadier General (Ret’d) Dario Tapia, CEO Minister of National Defence and Border Security; Brigadier General Asariel Loria, Commander Belize Defence Force; and Lieutenant Colonel Clifton Williams, Commanding Officer, First Infantry Battalion. It was on January 23 that a successful test landing of a BDF chopper took place at the base.  Colonel Anthony Velasquez indicated that the test landing was done to ensure that the ground could facilitate the helicopter in the event there is a need for urgent mobilization.
