34-year-old David Melendez is having his day in court, eight years after being charged with two counts of attempted murder.  Melendez’ case is before Justice Colin Williams and is being represented by Attorney Leeroy Banner.  The allegation is that Melendez chopped two men who were drinking with him back in March 2012.  The two men, 34-year-old Antonio Cowo and 47-year-old Rudolfo Sanchez were reportedly socializing at Melendez’ home in the Plantation Area, Ladyville when an altercation began.  Melendez is claiming self defence in his trial which began on Tuesday, January 20, 2020.  Attorney Banner has submitted a no case submission, asking the court to not call his client to answer to the charge due to inconsistency and discrepancies in the crown’s two main witnesses’ version of events on the day in question.  Crown Counsel Riis Cattousse countered Banner’s request, saying that although there are inconsistencies in the crown’s case, they have no bearings on the conclusion of the facts of the case.  Justice Colin Williams is hearing the matter in a trial by judge with-out jury.  A decision is pending for Friday, February 13, 2020.
