The two men were convicted and are serving life sentences for two separate murders stemming back to 2003 and 2008. Both men are being represented by attorney, Hector Guerra. Mitigation pleas were heard this morning for  24-year-old Darrell Grant and Louis Gillett. The two men were convicted and are serving life sentences for two separate murders stemming back to 2003 and 2008. Both men are being represented by attorney, Hector Guerra. In his plea for mitigation, before Justice Marilyn Williams, Guerra asked the court to consider imposing a fix sentence of 20-30 years upon his clients respectively for the murders they were found guilty of and were initially sentenced to life imprisonment for. Justice Marilyn Williams has reserved her decision on the matters until April 23 when a fixed sentence will be imposed. Grant was initially charged with the murder of 37-year-old Sandra Ruiz on August 10, 2008. She was viciously attacked and raped inside her home. Her attacker then hit her in the head with a hammer.  Grant has been behind bars for almost 11 years. He was tried for the murder on November 12, 2010, and was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment on November 18, 2010, by Justice Adolph Lucas. In the case of the other convicted prisoner, Gillett was convicted of the murder 75-year-old Alvin Godfrey which occurred on April 29, 2003. Gillett allegedly shot Godfrey in the face in April during a robbery but died in June. He was convicted on March 3, 2005, and sentenced to life imprisonment.
