On Sunday, the Methodist Church in Belize saw the induction of its first-ever female Bishop. The induction mass for Bishop, the Reverend Elswith R. Clare, was held at Wesly Church on Albert Street, Belize City. With her induction, Bishop Claire also becomes the first female president of the Belize/Honduras District for the Methodist Church. Claire said that she has been a member of the Methodist Church her entire life in various capacities and was ordained as a reverend back in 2013. She spoke to Love News about her journey to becoming the bishop, which began when she was only ten years old.
She added that, with the new appointment, her administrative responsibility has greatly expanded.
Earlier today the Ministry of Religious Affairs issued a statement congratulating Bishop Clare on her induction. The ministry says that the induction stands as a testament to her unwavering dedication to spiritual leadership and service. Bishop Clare will have to make trips to Honduras several times a year to fulfill her obligations to the parishes there.
