Mexican Man Murdered and Body dumped in Belize

A Mexican national was found dead yesterday inside the Corozal Free Zone, Corozal District, and one of his friends is wanted for his murder. Around 5 o’clock, police visited the zone’s lagoon and discovered the body of 33-year-old Carlos Alberto Rosas. Rosas, whose body was covered by pallets, had injury marks on the center of his forehead and the back of his head. On April 1, Rosas and a friend he was assisting left his home in Santa Elena, Quintana Roo, Mexico, on a motorcycle to pick up merchandise from the Corozal Free Zone. Rosas never returned home, prompting his family to check with the police at the free zone. Rosas’ body was later identified by his mother and transported to the National Forensic Science Services in Ladyville Village, where he awaits a post-mortem examination. According to the Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, Rosas may have been killed in Mexico and not within Belize’s borders.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “What our investigation is showing so far is that he may have been killed over at the Mexican side and thrown into the river and the body floated to the Belize side of the river. Our investigation is being done in conjunction with our Mexican counterparts because like I said we believe that the crime was committed in Mexico and we also believe that the suspect or suspects involved are from Mexico and so we will see how that goes between the two law enforcement agencies working together for us to be able to arrive at a definitive conclusion as to what may have transpired and by who.”

Police are seeking Mexican national, Jose Julio Martinez, in relation to Rosas’ murder.
