Mexicans Charged with Theft of Rental Vehicles in Belize

Tonight, two Mexicans are behind bars after being jointly charged with stealing two rentals valued at over a hundred thousand dollars in July. The men, 28-year-old Alejandro Jair Gonzalez Vasquez and 37-year-old Carlos Francisco Moralez stand accused of making off with two vehicles belonging to Budget Auto Rental. Today, the duo appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate where they were read charges of theft and abetment to commit theft. The men allegedly obtained two vehicles from the company under dishonest pretences. The case’s prosecutor informed the court that pleas were unable to be taken as he was awaiting directives from his superiors. He also objected to bail because the men had no ties to Belize and were only able to furnish the court with their Mexican address. The men’s immigration statutes were also unknown which led to the Senior Magistrate informing them that the Immigration Department would be contacted. The men were remanded until October 23 when they returned to court.
