Police are investigating the gruesome murder of 32-year-old, Michael Gladden from Roaring Creek Village, Cayo District. On October 27, at around am police a pool of blood on the roadside between miles 45 and 46 on the George Price Highway. They proceeded to search the area and, shortly after, they discovered the body of Gladden with his head decapitated. Love News spoke with the cousin of the deceased, Brett Smith, who shared with us the horrid story of how their search party encountered the decapitated head a few meters away from the body.
Bret Smith, Cousin of Deceased: “We all gathered at his house about let’s say eight o’clock and we went out to on the search team and me along with some of the guys from the village and some ladies, and while searching in the bush I decided to come out of the bush and we stopped there and we decided like ‘okay this is not making any sense.’ because we were too deep in the bush and we decided to just walk on the side of the road instead. Going down to where we found it we saw signs of vultures and so we decided to just sit back a see where they were going and right where they were flying over I decided to go in the bush and when I went there I saw what looked like a plastic bag and a shirt so I just bent down and when I looked I saw the bag with the shirt and I called the police immediately and just informed them that I found something- so they asked us to leave the scene and after that we left. So then they went in and confirmed that it was indeed the remains of my cousin. He’s someone who anyone could ask to do a favor, he drinks his rum whenever he hears music he is the party type always dancing, willing to help people and stuff like that; anybody could tell you that’s him I don’t know him any other way than someone who is willing to help and someone who loves to party.”
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvette, several suspects have been detained following police investigation.
ACP Joseph Myette, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “The scene was processed and the body was removed to the Western Regional Hospital where based on certain distinguishing marks and tattoos that male person was identified as Michael Gladden, 31 years of a Roaring Creek address. Further searches conducted within the same area just a short while ago, about ten minutes resulted in the discovery of the head of Michael Gladden concealed in a bag. Police are currently on the scene processing that area. So far police have several persons detained in connection with this investigation. We know for certain after going over some of what was gathered evidentially that he was at a night club within Belmopan sometime after midnight along with others. We have not been able to establish a clear motive. We do know that one of the leads being followed is that it may have been over some female but we are still following that at this point in time.”
Love News will continue to follow this developing story.
