Miguel Lopez Shares his Side of the story

A resident from San Jose Succotz Village, Cayo District tells the other side of what led to an elderly man being beaten. Miguel Lopez is the brother of Jason Cal, who is reportedly one of the two men who were captured in a video, attacking Cirio Panti. According to reports, Panti was sitting on the doorstep of his house on Church Street when he was attacked by two men. Witnesses say that the attackers were visibly drunk. In an interview with Love News, Panti explained that the two men approached him to beg for money; however, when he did not give them any, they began attacking him. But, Lopez says that the night prior, Cal was allegedly stabbed by Panti’s son-in-law. Lopez explains further.

Miguel Lopez, Brother of Jason Cal: “There was an incident on Sunday that my brother was stabbed by the son in law of Mr.Cirio Pani and my brother reached to my sister’s home at about seven o’clock on Sunday night and he indicated that he was stabbed and then he had to run for his life and he was injured and then he fainted on the floor. And so he was bleeding and  then we waited until the other day which was on Monday to take him at six o’clock in the morning to San Ignacio Hospital. There he began to receive treatment and I don’t know how police reached there, they knew that he was there in the hospital and they went there and arrested him and took him to the Benque police station. So my brother went and then he also gave his statement but my brother was taken to the Benque court today and the other guy we didn’t see the other guy. There is an issue that my family we have been having some issues with police, police that are stationed here in Succotz that sometimes we go to the station to launch our complaints and our statements that we have been having some issues in the past and we feel that we haven’t been receiving the attention that we need. Whenever we want to submit a statement they have denied us the opportunity for us to submit a statement and if we request court action no investigation has been done for what we have known and we have been charged even myself. I keep a clean record, I have my police record which is a clean police record that I have and you know I don’t know if they want to affect my name to mess up my name because you know I was given a charge for mischievous act, I haven’t done anything. I’m just outspoken and I defend myself and I defend my family, if I don’t defend my family who will defend them ? So we feel this victimization is affecting us, police victimization is affecting us up to date because if we need the police to assist us in the future we might get injured, hurt or whatsoever I don’t know if the police will assist us.”
