Minister Dolores Baldaramos Garcia Tells LOO he should have read budget
Also doubling down on the LOO’s budget debate contribution was Minister of Human Development, Families, and Indigenous People’s Affairs, Dolores Balderamos-Garcia. The minister told Barrow that he should have read the budget before coming to the House today. She explained that the budget for her ministry this year has increased to meet the needs of the population.
Hon. Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Minister of Human Development, Families and Indigenous People’s Affairs: “Recurrent expenditure for this fiscal year Madam Speaker is $16,606,780. You know I really sometimes feel sorry for the Leader of the Opposition you know ? He doesn’t even read. This budget recurrent estimate is more than what it was last year and he’s talking about spending less on Human Development. Madam Speaker he just is at sea, completely at sea. $16.6 million recurrent expenditure Madam Speaker and in the millions for CAP 2 expenditure – and let me read out the entire amount it’s $7,374,598 Madam Speaker. A huge amount that has not been spent before in the development of our people and this country. We are making Plan Belize work. We are working the economy and the governance of this country with fiscal responsibility. We are offering prudent management and we’re also focusing on business and entrepreneurship while not forgetting the social safety net. And this budget proposal Madam Speaker is reflecting the government’s commitment to the people and the human development of this country. We support our vulnerable families and in this budget we are budgeting $300,000 for foster care programs. We are budgeting $240,000 for the elderly care program we are budgeting $31,000. And under community rehabilitation we are looking at feeding programs to the tune of $50,000, after school programs another $50,000. Education and personal development $108,500 . Skill training $43,500, summer camp $50,000 and rehabilitation of juvenile offenders and youths at risk $150,000. For the Women and Family Support Department Mr.Speaker we will be hiring in this financial year we will be hiring more social workers for especially for the combatting of gender based and domestic violence. We are taking this issue very seriously.”
