Minister Fonseca calls for open-mindedness during constitutional reform process

The work of the People’s Constitution Commission is expected to produce fruit: a legal framework that responds to the challenges of modern-day Belize and one that addresses the challenges of a developing country. Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca said on Saturday that during this process, Belizeans must be open-minded and mature enough to hear and listen to divergent views and not give in to confirmation bias.

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education: “Prime Minister Briceno has announced the formation of a People’s Constitutional Commission which is charged with undertaking nationwide consultations aimed at reviewing and reforming Belize’s constitutional framework. This is a unique opportunity in a nation’s history for us as a people to shape and change the governance structures of our country for future generations to come. Today I use this opportunity to challenge all Belizeans to be fully engaged in this very important process. Be informed, be prepared to listen and learn, be open to change, be guided by the national interest and not individual interest.”
