“I have never seen the opposition at such a low point”: that’s what Minister of Education and Freetown Area Rep, Francis Fonseca, had to say when he was asked about the state of the United Democratic Party (UDP). Today, Fonseca weighed in on the decision of the UDP’s Caucus for Change to have Moses “Shyne” Barrow remain as the party’s leader. The group, which consists of influential figures within the party, has stated that it will not support the call for a national party convention to elect a new leader. It’s a move that Fonseca says does not worry him or his party one bit.
Hon. Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education: “But very honestly I have not been paying any attention at all to the UDP and what they’re doing you know and the carcass for change even less. So you know as I understand it they were scheduled to have a leadership convention –
Reporter: They won’t anymore the caucus had said they’re done with that Shyne will be our leader until after the next general election.
Hon. Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education: “Yeah well it’s a marriage of mutual survival. A mutual survival or mutual destruction whichever way you want to look at it. So you know I think it’s terrible. I’ve never seen the opposition party at such a low point the UDP so you know but I don’t wan to get engaged in their inner workings.”
