We also asked Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca about his view on the union’s attack on the free media. Fonseca says the decision is ill advised and petty.
Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education: “I think it is absolutely, absolutely counterproductive. I think it’s misguided. I think it’s unreasonable. You know I see absolutely no basis for it. You know I see the newscasts and very often feel that the unions are are getting the bulk of the coverage and at the times we feel that our voices are not being properly reflected and heard. So, I don’t know where they’re getting this position. Again it seems just like your consultations with them, very often a few loud voices who have particular agendas seem to seem to take over the conversation that make these decisions you know which are not grounded in facts or evidence that simply is not the case. In the case of Love FM you all have given full access to the BNTU to the PSU, we see them on a daily basis on the media. So I think it’s absolutely it’s petty and, you know, I hope that good reason prevails that they understand that they have made a wrongheaded decision, and that they correct that very, very quickly.”
