Minister Francis Fonseca says he had a full plate during the last PUP administration, juggling multiple demanding roles as Minister of Education, Culture, and Science and Technology, while also serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. In an interview today, Fonseca reflected on the challenges of managing such extensive responsibilities and expressed that, should the PUP form the next government, he hopes to see the portfolios separated. He emphasized that each ministry requires a focused and dedicated approach to effectively address its unique demands and deliver meaningful results for the people of Belize.

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs: “As you absolutely rightly pointed out that’s not my decision at all. But I think, no, I don’t think so. I think those are very, very important ministries, very serious work, dedicated attention. So I think that was a short-term arrangement given the circumstances. I don’t see at all that happening in another term of government. So ideally you want a minister responsible for education and culture and you want a minister dedicated to focusing on foreign affairs and foreign trade. So I don’t see that happening in a next government.”
Fonseca has additionally served as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade since 2024
