This morning, the Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries addressed Squad 98 of the Belize Police Department. The discussion sought to highlight the theme of “Creating Smart Officers” and the critical role technology will play in modern policing. The meeting served as both an orientation and a motivational session for the recruits, focusing on preparing them to embrace innovative tools and strategies in law enforcement. The Minister spoke with Love News emphasizing the department’s vision for a more technology-driven force.

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs: “This morning I had the opportunity to address our 223 young men and women who formed Squad 98. And like you said, to offer words of encouragement, to express how grateful I am that they have decided to take up this challenge to serve the nation as modern-day smart police officers. And in essence, that was the theme, taking the police department into the future. And what that entails is, of course, utilizing greater innovation and technology. It involves greater community policing efforts with a heavy focus on neighborhood watch groups. It involves advancing their own personal careers outside of the department, getting a greater higher education, and certainly most of all building trust and confidence in the public in the Belize Police Department. And so I think they’re all very understanding and mindful of what their role will be when they graduate in six months.”
