As the Minister of New Growth Industries, Kareem Musa has endorsed the potential of a bamboo operations in Belize. We reported on this story some weeks ago, explaining that Bamboo Bioproducts International has the concept to farm bamboo on a large scale, harvest on a managed and progressive basis and then convert the raw material at their mill.
Kareem Musa, Minister of New Growth Industries: “As you know there is a company that is interested in setting up a manufacturing facility in Belize. We met with them last year excellent potential for our country. As you know bamboo grows in the wild and there is a huge potential to create value added products out of bamboo and so in furtherance of that meeting last year the company came back a few weeks ago, met with the Prime Minister and I think the minister of investment and so we are looking to get that industry moving forward. And like I said it is primarily to set up a manufacturing facility so that anybody who has bamboo growing on their property can take bamboo to this facility and sell it to them so that they can then create value added products.”
Also supporting the bamboo business is Prime Minister John Briceno who told Love News that his administration is supporting this initiative, not only because of the potential revenues but also because bamboo is considered a carbon sink.
